Lift the Lid raised over $36,000.00 for mental health.

Sport is a great opportunity to raise money

Lift the Lid raised over $36,000.00  for mental health and broadens community awareness through sport. The Lift the Lid Golf Tournament at Kingston Heath Golf Club on 24th May 2022 was a memorable day for the generous golfers that participated. The event then continued at the clubhouse over a scrumptious dinner and other activities that raised additional money for the cause.

The brilliant autumn weather was perfect for the entrants who all thoroughly enjoyed competing for fabulous prizes offered by a slew of amazing sponsors. The seamless flow of the tournament did not reveal the work behind the scenes for all the contributors.

The tournament was almost a year in the making as Covid restrictions disrupted plans and resulted in several changes to start dates. Ironically Covid itself was the cause of a lot of mental strain during the organisation process.

The chief organiser was Elizabeth Dumonic Principal of Elite Women Real Estate and a long-time Rotary member. Elizabeth volunteered enormous time and money on this hugely important cause. With her crew of helpers, she brought the event to life. Clearly organising this event was both a challenge and a privilege for Elizabeth and her team.

Other important contributors

Another wonderful contributor was the incredible and generous Merv Hughes. Everyone present enjoyed his wonderful commentary and he also helped set up —a down-to-earth great guy that truly made the night extra special.

Offering his time as a celebrity guest the golfers were thrilled to be seated at his table. Delighting guests with behind-the-scenes cricket stories everyone left feeling like they made a new friend.

Merv also signed a cricket bat that was auctioned off – by of course the fabulous auctioneer Elizabeth Dumonic. In true form, Elizabeth exceeded the reserve and raised an additional $10,000 for the cause.

Another important guest speaker was Prof Eoin Killackey. His work in mental health has been encouraged by Rotary over the years and he paid Rotary thanks for the support. He explained how the funds are used to advance mental health research and how the work is ongoing. Prof. Eoin Killackey was a generous contributor on the night educating the guests on the value of protecting mental health.

Lastly but importantly the magnificent Kingston Heath Club. The grounds were a delight for the golfers – although some may challenge the word delight – the venue was elegant and the food was superb. The management and staff were outstanding and supportive from the beginning to the end of the events.

Lift the Lid is a cause that is well worth all efforts and Rotary is proud to have sponsored another successful event.
